Iter-Auto, 1930
In car navigation has its roots back in the 1930s when an Italian company invented the Iter-Auto. The Iter-auto was attached to the dashboard and synced up with the car’s speedometer, the device would use routes printed on long paper scrolls. Besides the route you were taking, the maps would also feature info on hotels, garages, diners and the like.

Auto Union, WW2
Auto Union was an amalgamation of four German automobile manufacturers… Audi, Horch, DKW, Wanderer.
Following the outbreak of war, civilian production was halted and the company became a supplier of vehicles to Germany’s armed forces. Its logo, 4 overlapping rigs, survives today as the logo for Audi.

In 1933 Adolf Hitler met with Ferdinand Porsche to discuss the development of a “Volks-Wagen” (“People Car”), a basic vehicle that should be capable of transporting two adults and three children at a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph), and which should cost no more than a 990 Richsmark (at an average income of 32RM/week).
