Construction started in 1926, and was completed in 1931, with its dedication being held Oct 12, 1931.
Created by Polish-French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, the statue, is built upon the top of Corcovado mountian, overlooking Rio de Janeiro.
It is constructed of reinforced concrete with an outer shell of soapstone tiles. The statue stands 124ft tall and weighs over 1400 tons.
