A relic is stolen from a French church during WW2, the church bells were not to ring until it returns. Then they rang. In looking for who was responsible, a dead body was discovered, but there was no sign of who rang the bells. The film from that point forward is a telling of the tale that lead up to that point. A former soldier returns to France and is hunted, one group, looking for the location of the glove, the other group, the police, wanting the soldier for a series of murders he did not commit.
