Eternal Gardens
One of the most amazing places among the steel and concrete mazes that make up the entirety of METROPOLIS is the Eternal Gardens. Plant life is very rare inside of the city as there is no place to grow anything naturally, the ground below the upper city is always in the shadows of the towers above. Massive indoor and roof top gardens were designed for the rich and powerful to compensate for the lack of plant life elsewhere.
The Eternal Gardens themselves are unique to those gardens as most of the plantlife has been genetically engineered. Large fern-like plants with draping leaves are scattered among the man-made streams, fountains and bridges. The artificial lighting illuminates the grounds on an almost 24 hour basis. Smaller engineered groundcover never grows taller than 3" high and is resistant to the chemicals they spray to remove any pests that try to make their home on the grounds.
Other "inhabitants" to the Eternal Gardens are the hand picked girls who's only job is to appear delightful with their face paint, masks and costumes and to keep the "Club of the Sons" entertained, most of these girls are picked from the worker city or the lower city. Girls picked from the worker city are often encouraged by their parents to accept this offer as it provides a way out of the tortures of working the machines for the rest of their lives.
The Majordomo at the Gardens is Gotho, an older man who has worked in the gardens since they opened. He and a highly trained staff tended to the needs of the garden, and the wants of the patrons who come to enjoy the rich foliage, the rushing streams, and the voluptuous girls of the garden.
